drummer

Our hero in this story is a young black man. He is living in south central in the late eighties, surrounded by gang warfare and drugs. The school he goes to is a joke and there is temptation for bad things everywhere he turns. But his grandmother has him enrolled in a martial arts school with a kung fu artist who has trained under bruce lee. Our hero is able for a little while to shun the chaos he sees around him and acquires discipline. But when his grandmother dies it sends him into a tailspin of destruction. He eventually finds himself passed out at a party and wakes up in a frenzy and begins to run. He runs down sunset boulevard and ends up on a scenic trail asleep, near the palisades.
Adimu, an immigrant from Kenya who lives nearby and brings him back to her house where she lives with a retired drummer. They let him stay with them and he gets into drumming himself. Starts listening to sly and the family stone instead of hip hop and joins a band on venice beach. In one scene, people of his past see him and think it's him.
Something Star: The movie.
What do you call a person who is recognized a talent by many people, but doesn't make enough money at it to be considered professional? A something star. What if that somebody who felt so close to his lucky break was the center of a movie that starts silently at his manager's house in the valley while she is away. Without it being said, he is living there for a few days while she is gone. Getting the mail, feeding the fish, etc. But the first shot is of him gazing at the sun through a screen in the sky as he floats effortlessly aboard an inner tube in a pool, seemingly for hours. Then we hear music and it goes into a past gig of his.
C G Am
Let's start in style, let's dance for a while
F G
Heaven can wait we're only watching the skies
Am F
Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst
G6 - FMaj7 - G6 - C
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?

Let us stay young or let us live forever
We don't have the power, but we never say never
Sitting in the sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sadman

Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn out all the faces into the sun
Praising our leaders, we're getting in tune
The music's played by the madman

C G
Forever Young
Am F
I want to be Forever Young
G Am
Do you really want to live forever?
F G
Forever, you'll never
C G
Forever Young,
Am F
I want to be Forever Young
G Am
Do you really want to live forever?
F G C
Forever Young.

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young?

It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Years like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever

So many advantages given up today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
Oh let it come true

Chorus...

MEAN2ME

I WAS INEXPERIENCED TO BELIEVE
THAT YOU WOULD WANT WHAT'S BEST FOR ME
THE MORE I TRIED TO HOLD ON TO YOU
YOU SURPRISED WITH THE THINGS THAT YOU SAY AND DO
CAUSE YOU'RE SO MEAN TO ME

Rap

one two
you know what to do
start with
the thing that you don't want to
three four
open up the door
you might find the thing you've been lookin' for
five six
working on your tricks
don't stop until something clicks
seven eight
don't leave it up to fate
he who has regrets used to hesitate
nine ten
do it all again
and it gets better and better my friend.
